All On 4 Dallas, TX

There are now more options than ever for tooth restoration than ever, including All-on-4® Implants and Arches. Implants are an effective way to restore your smile after teeth loss compared to other dental applications. If you’re considering All-on-4 Implants as a solution for your tooth loss, then you might want to know what materials are used in the devices before you have them installed.

Implants are a permanent solution to tooth loss but also a major surgical, dental procedure. It helps to have all the information you can before you decide to make such a big decision about your oral health.

All-on-4 implant materials

The implant consists of three components that comprise the entirety of the restoration. Those components are as follows:

  • Implant,
  • Abutment
  • Crown

Each component is composed of different materials, and depending on the other materials chosen, there are various pros and cons.

The implant

The implant is the main anchor point for the prosthetic tooth or crown. This is the part that is installed into the gum to hold the replacement tooth in your mouth. There are two types of materials that it can be made from titanium and zirconium.

Titanium implants have been around for many years and boast several benefits. Because of their construction and how long they have been around, titanium implants have a very high success rate when installed and more options in terms of fittings. Titanium is also the better option in terms of a whole mouth restoration.

Zirconium is becoming more popular as a material because it is closer to natural tooth color. There is also a lower chance of infections with zirconium over titanium and no risk of metal allergies.

The abutment

This piece is where the prosthetic tooth sits. It also has several options in terms of material. The choice of material will typically be the same as that of the implant so that there are no issues with the installation process.

The abutment is typically not visible but is an important part of implant installation; if the abutment doesn’t fit properly, the prosthetic teeth may not fit properly, which can ruin the entire implant process.

The crown

The crown is the tooth portion of the implant that sits on top of the abutment and is the main visible part. It is also the chewing surface. The choice of materials for the crown is typically either porcelain or zirconium.

The most common choice for a crown is porcelain because it is durable and closer to natural tooth color. However, zirconium is becoming more popular as the overall construction material for All-on-4® implants because it is equally durable and less likely to cause problems. It is also able to mimic natural tooth color like porcelain as well.
